Inspired by Nuit Blanc in Paris, White Night offers a unique opportunity to engage with artists, musicians and performers in an open and accessible way. For one night only, Napier’s art precinct will come alive after hours with all galleries open late, live performance, interactive events, installations and artists in residence. We invite you to take to the streets of Napier and see the city in a different way, through smoke screens, laser lights and large projections.

Celebrate White Night at the museum with beats by local percussion group Bay Batucada. Try out our giant interactive marble run and explore the new family-friendly exhibition, Mystery of History. You can also check out our show of NASA space images in the Century Theatre. Entry is free so grab your friends and whanau and come along!

MORGAN MADE – 4 MARKET STREET
Morganmade is a studio and store created by potter Holly Morgan. Come to see ‘moon rocks’ an iridescent installation set up with black lights and live pottery wheel throwing. The iridescent glow will spill onto the pavement where people are encouraged to express their creativity by painting the pavement with freely available chalk.

White Night marks the beginning of local ceramic artist Angela Jordan’s first solo exhibition. Visit Tennyson Gallery to take in this collection of new works, both on plinths and on the walls and explore the wider array of art, objects and jewellery for sale.

Boyd-Dunlop Gallery will show works of Brian Culy and Richard Boyd-Dunlop’s collaboration with Little and Fox. The upstairs gallery will have a group show and open studio featuring some of NZ’s best artists

Black featuring NZ dub icons, Paddy Free and Michael Hodgson in a bespoke street show for this year’s White Night. Dub, downbeat, techno, drum’n’bass and cinematic ambience are all ingredients in an echo-drenched odyssey that will move the heart, mind and body, as Pitch Black’s distinctive sonic signature of deep analogue dub will combine with slinky beats to a backdrop of epic visuals projected onto Napier’s Cathedral.

Sam Deller from Boom Factory has lit up the streets of Napier with a beautiful laser show for the last 2 years as part of White Night He is back by popular demand accompanied by DJ Lorenzo’s live sets, combining mellow hip hop, instrumental beds with live saxophone.

A pop-up installation exploring our idea of home by ‘Spaces >in< Between’ and ‘Iwi Toi’ building on the poetic performance piece ‘Freedom is Behind My Breath’ that featured at last year’s Arts Festival.
People are invited to listen, read and share their experience of home and their wishes for their own whanau written on pieces of paper and mounted in this installation. Do you know someone whose home has no light on? What wish would you cast for them?

Recent New Zealand School of Dance graduates and tutors of Tū Move (hip-hop, street and contemporary dance programme for young Māori and Pacific Island men), will bring to life the Napier Arts Quarter with activations of movement inspired by contemporary, hip hop, Māori and Pasifika dance.
This is a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Aoteoroa’s most talented and promising dance artists and experience a fusion of dynamic dance and movement.
